Nursing Research and Innovation

Nurses in British Columbia are involved in many different aspects of research.
Research is ongoing at academic institutions, health authorities and health care institutions across the province
In addition, there are also a number of research focused organizations which work to connect and support health research and health researchers in B.C.

The following is a list of some, but not all, research focused organizations in B.C.

BC Support Unit
The BC SUPPORT (Support for People and Patient-Oriented Research and Trials) Unit is a multi-partner organization created to support, streamline and increase patient-oriented research throughout BC.
The Unit has two main roles: providing services to researchers, patients, health care providers and health system decision makers, and facilitating initiatives identified as provincial priorities.

BC Academic Health Science Network
The purpose of the BC Academic Health Science Network (BC AHSN) is to accelerate the translation of research insights into innovations that address patient needs and health system priorities to improve population health outcomes.

Michael Smith Foundation
The Foundation helps BC’s health research community discover solutions to our greatest health challenges; connect knowledge and action on provincial priorities; and engage partners to improve the research enterprise.

BC Primary Health Care Research Network
The BC Primary Health Care Research Network (BC-PHCRN) is funded through a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) with matching funds from the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR). BC-PHCRN aim to encourage, facilitate, and support collaborations between government, health authorities, health professionals, patients and researchers.
